I enjoy telling my story as I know that it gives hope to those recently diagnosed and are starting out on the scariest journey of their lives.
Hi my name is John Fraser.
On returning from an overseas trip to the USA with my wife & kids I had a terrible pain in my side, off to the GP then off to a physio to sort out this “strained muscle” in my side. Two visits later and I knew that physio was not the answer.
Second opinion time and this doc was also sure I had pulled a muscle but agreed that I should have an ultrasound “just in case” shock & horror as they found that the 12cm growth on my colon had actually ruptured my colon so ASAP off to the theatre we went.
Doc Roy Baine proceded to remove a stretch of my ruptured colon unsure where else the cancer may have spread to and fearing for the worst. Six months of Chemo followed and I am lucky to have come through it in the clear. Not the most fun I have ever had but thanks to the strength of my wife who did not miss one chemo session and the need to make sure I stuck around to help raise my two sons here I am.
Now 16 years on I run half marathons, coach football and live each day to the fullest. I hike with my wife having recently done the Otter, the Tsitsikamma Forrest hike and the Whale Trail.
I enjoy telling my story as I know that it gives hope to those recently diagnosed and are starting out on the scariest journey of their lives.
